<Space, Dream and Light>

In the boundless, immeasurable expanse of the inner dream space, there exist the domains of ALOK and anomalous form. The most beautiful and radiant dreams of my childhood, and the senses of wonder experienced in the everyday flow through ALOK, projected in the aspects of my younger self. In the space of dream, the free existences of ALOK and anomalous forms drift densely like cells, as today’s impressions merge with memories of the past to be newly born on a luminous screen. ALOK, bearing the light of a brilliant heart, spreads this light to all, and the light diffuses throughout the world.

MOON SUNHEE’s work, which begins from vanishing, faint fragments of memory, visually reconstructs the episodic memory left inside us and the afterimage of emotions that accompany it. As time moves on, memory gradually fades and sometimes is distorted and rearranged. It returns as faces and figures, containing inside them facets of longing, tenderness, and the resolve not to forget.

The fragmented episodic memory of MOON SUNHEE is a process of weaving together the emotional density and fragments of memory accumulated within the self through a sculptural language. Through this, the flow of emotion and shards of memory are gathered and embodied as an inner narrative of life.

Artist Statement

MOON SUNHEE’s work begins from personal EPISODIC MEMORY. From childhood, the artist was captivated by forms more fantastical than real, mechanically divided structures, and science-fictional spaces. Even with the passage of time, these experiences remained as traces of emotion, accumulating in memory. Memory, as time passes, remains not as clear scenes but as fragments of emotion and image. Rather than restoring these memories as a single narrative, the artist reconnects blurred and distorted fragments to form new shapes. Faces, silhouettes, and segmented forms symbolize perceptual clues left in memory, and the gaps between hold remnants of lost time and emotion. Fragmentation and deconstruction are not simple formative procedures, but means of visualizing the process by which memory is generated and transformed. Different fragments of memory layer and rearrange on the canvas, composing a new landscape where reality and fantasy, past and present, coexist. Through the ceaselessly shifting process of memory and emotion, MOON SUNHEE reconstructs the invisible landscape of the inner world in visual language, exploring the intersection where memory, form, and feeling meet.
